Mixing Synthetic & Dino Oil
I was changing my oil and had some Rotella T 5W-40 full synthetic left over from another change and a some Castrol 10W-40. Any opinions on mixing the two? I would assume they are compatible but wanted any other opinions. I am possibly going to change over to full synthetic but wanted to ease it in and verify I do not get any leaks in the process. I have an 83 1100 8 valve motor. ThanksTags: None

I mix and switch back and forth willy-nilly between synth and dino, and have never had a problem.

Thanks for the replies (well most of them :-D). I completed my oil change, went for a spin and my motor has not blown up yet but the day is still early. 8-[

I don't think it'll be a problem. I accidentally did the same in my SV1000 and called my dealer in a panic. They told me most of the Suzuki brand synthetic is actually "blend" anyway- 1/2 syn 1/2 dino.
So I'd say you'll be OK. 8-)

I've been mixing oils for years.
Just add clean, fresh oil when necessary to top off the crankcase, without overfilling. Mixing dino 10W40 with existing Rotella will be no problem.
The important thing is to keep the oil level where it should be, at all times.
