    GS850G and GS1100G side covers

I've heard and read about GS850G and GS1100G side covers falling off and being lost, badly damaged.... Does anyone know of any tricks to ensure that they do NOT fall off? Thanks.

Replace the grommets with new ones from Suzuki. They're maybe a buck fiddy each.

The same goes for lots of other rubber bits and pieces -- almost all are still available, cheap, and will make your bike feel and work a little bit newer.

Lost my left side cover 3 weeks ago on the highway (1000G). As an FYI, they are still available new. Most places say they can't get them, but on Bike Bandit they list the "Marble Indigo" color as available for $72.00. When it arrives, it's actually unpainted black plastic not "marble Indigo". Needless to say, I ordered new grommets at the same time I ordered the cover. Get the grommets before you lose it. With the cover, the cost of paint, a new emblem, and shipping, that dried out grommet cost me over $100.

luckily the only emblem was scratched and yes those pesky grommets are on the "shopping" list.

Dr.gonzo, where did you get the paint, ColoRite?

On all my bikes I secure with a small cable tie around the frame close to the cover. If the cover has slots I just run it through one of those. If it only has the posts, I drill a small hole someplace not noticeable. It always looks better than a missing side cover or a color mismatched one.

Dude... I am doing that the minute I get home, cable tie through slot to frame. Could leave it loose enough to take off and swing out of the way, excellent idea.

There is a fix on the board for that problem also.

there was a post on how to make a new "post" using the green stuff for floral arrangements as a form, I just can't find it now.
