Help finding someone to work on carbs

Does anyone know a good carb mechanic in Western Wisconsin or Twin Cities Metro area? Bought the bike in the spring and it didn't run right. It would die when you gave it gas and backfired. Took the carbs apart, put on new kits and new intake o-rings. Even though it runs a little better it still dies giving it gas. Would like to be able to ride the rest of the summer so willing to take it somewhere to get it running right.

    Thanks

Don't rush out and take it to a dealer...or it may never run "right" that is if you could even find one to work on it. Does it have the stock exhaust, air box, and mirrors? Have you checked the petcock to ensure that it is working correctly? New plugs, checked wires and caps? You will get this thing to purrrrr but it may take a few more posts to the GSR.

How many miles are on the bike? Set the valves?

After putting the carbs on we used a temp gas tank and had the fuel tank and airbox off when we started it. It did start and run but we haven't been able to get the idle adjustment to keep it running. We were able to keep running for a few minutes at a time by manually using the choke. As soon as any throttle is used or the choke is released the motor bogs down and dies out. This is a 1980 GL850 model. Any thoughts?

Where do you live? I live in White Bear Lake. I am open to taking a look at it. I have a really good friend who is an excellant MC mechanic (not a dealer mechanic) who has helped me a lot. If he shows me how to do it the charge is minimal (he needs to pay for food too!). Anyway, give me a call or pm or whatever.

            Thanks!

These bikes will not run without the airbox, you'll never get it set right, that way. It will be WAY too lean!

and is the rubber side seal properly in place under the chrome cover, foam air filter properly oiled, air filter "holder" sealed to the top of the air box.
did you bench syncro the carbs when you overhauled the carbs? just a drill bit is required to do that.
in about an hour you'll have it done yourself, including adjusting them!
