    suggestions for charging system

I like headlights...bright ones...that really light the road. I don't like my headlight. It draws way too many watts and when I hit my brakes it and my dash dims. Crappy.

I want to run a dedicated all-time HID low beam like my car, plus be able to stack a 55~60w high beam on top of it. I'll be cutting back to one light bulb on the rear. My dash only draws 8w.

I want to replace my stator (it's wearing thin) and update my R/R. I'm also thinking about building a new wiring harness, but are there aftermarket replacements available? What are the BEST options out there?

In regards to the charging system, at this time it would seem that a "properly" rewound stator, or a stock replacement stator used with a Yamaha FH012AA R/R is your best charging system option. if you are in need of the increased output for additional lights.
see this thread. http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...d.php?t=134690 for additional information to make a decision with.

Given my sample of 1, with 2500 miles and 6 months installed (plus some time in a box) ,the ElectroSport R/R either failed or got much more hot than nessesary.

I would rate it at about par with the OEM as in my prior testing there was no observable difference with two other GS750EX OEM units.

It has now had it's pigtail severed and is back in a box .

        FH012AA was the replacement.

          Jim,
it looks like there are also fh008eb, fh010 and fh011 R/R's out there. so far no current ratings found. (yet)

Are those smaller packages with somewhat lower current ratings?

I've got a wide selection of R/R's to choose from...but I'm also concerned about stators. I want a stator that's up to producing enough that I can hit it with all 210 watts of maximum pull and be ok.

Is there any thing outside of ElectroSport? If I rewing my own with a guage higher wire, how would that effect it's operation?

unknown at this time. I'm working on acquiring one, rewinding and testing with a FET style R/R.

***edit*** you could buy the Electrosport stator, throw a FET style R/R on it and report back on how that combination works.

                        Cooking with electrons

                        Hi Mr. makenzie71,

I'll share my little bit of experience.

Here's a short stator and r/r vendor list:

                        New electrical parts
                        http://stores.ebay.com/RMSTATOR or http://www.rmstator.com/
Aftermarket Motorsport Electrics parts for motorcycles, dirtbikes, atvs, motosport vehicles manufactured and distributed by Rick's Motorsport Electrics

The RMStator part claims more output than OEM (they also sell r/r units). I've purchased from them and received good service. I've also used Electrosport (from BikeBandit) with no problems, but I don't have extra lights on my bike, yet.

I installed a Superbrite LED Luxeon LX5 bulb in my tail light. It's a monster. The LX3 series is good too. http://www.superbrightleds.com/tail-brake-turn.html

I get no dimming of the headlight when I step on the brake and it's a very bright tail/brake light bulb.

It's also possible to install a relay so that your headlight gets full voltage. But, like you suggested, it's best to start with a clean wiring harness. Corrosion causes resistance and voltage loss. CLICK HERE for some wiring harness clean-up suggestions.

                        Thank you for your indulgence,

                        BassCliff
