ignition question
i have in place of points are what seem to be 2 black boxes where the points should be any idea what they are? i have an 82 gs 850Tags: None

Those are the pickups for your pointless electronic ignition.
When it's working, it's much better than points.
Once it's set, there is no adjustment necessary.
Replacement is only necessary when a part fails, because nothing wears out.

If your bike is an '82 GS850GL, then I believe it has the early-style electronic ignition with a mechanical advancer -- the second photo on the page.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

every time I run it up to 10,000 rpm I wonder should I try again for 11,000? naaaah, 10,000's good enough.
