How do I measure my floats?

I need to find out how to measure my floats. I know I need to and I can find the specification that's for my bike but I'm not sure how to go about doing it. Do I need to go and buy myself a caliper? I haven't seen any tutorial or anything like that.

I'm thinking I need to adjust my floats because after I cleaned my carbs and put on new o-rings, fuel still comes out of my carbs when I put it on prime. I've attached a little pic of where the fuel is coming out.

The fuel is coming out on the back side of the carbs where it connects to the airbox. It's coming out of the hole opposite the air screw.

No, any "good" measuring ruler will work just fine.

if you find the floats to be in spec and it's leaking fuel, I would replace all the needle and seats.

No, any "good" measuring ruler will work just fine.

For those of us with poor vision, a calipers is easier to use. I tried setting mine with a machinest rule and had a hard time reading the scale.

i bought a plastic 1.99 caliper from harbor freight and taped it in the spot i needed

I had the exact same problem with mine leaking out of the same spot on the carbs. What fixed it for me was putting in a shut-off in the fuel line because i think the petcock was still letting fuel into the carbs when the bike sat.
