First off and before this gets buried in the post, if there a carb or brake spray cleaner that is safe for the rubber in the carb? (NOT the diaphragm) Also if I pull the carbs do I NEED to resynch if I don't take the rack apart? My carbtune is in NY and I'm in GA.

Last weekend I rode down to Fort Rucker and back and had my first ever oil leak. Luckily it was just the shift indicator switch o-ring and was an easy fix.
Yesterday I tweaked the mix screws because I think the bike may have been not fully up to temp the last time. I must have been pretty close though, all the screws ended up within 1/8 turn of where they were before I started. After this I gassed up and rode @50mi to see a friend and then came back later that night. On the ride down things were perfect but <2mi after leaving her house the bike backfired leaving a traffic light.
After the backfire she was running but rough and would rev freely but clearly was missing under load. I pulled into a parking lot and the engine died and didn't want to restart with a couple of short tries so I made a call and got out the flashlight and tools.... after I got off the phone (<5min) I tried to start once more and she fired right up and ran well enough to ride home on the highway. There was still some missing but it was minor, slight enough that I wasn't always sure if it was bucking, pavement texture or paranoia. There was also a LOT of jumping from the tach. Its had a slow spot around 6000rpm for about a year but this was more erratic jumping.
Today I pulled the plugs and 1,3,4 are all good and the same with light grey to very light tan electrodes and tips. #2 is more on the lean side and looking into the cylinders I can see 1,3,4 all have a light uniform carbon buildup but #2 looks like the same carbon layer has a bad case of "fish eye" like you see in paint sometimes.
I also drained the gas from the float bowls using a cut down coke can as a pan and got a little debris from all four bowls. I just cleaned the bowls and checked the jets within the last 1500mi or so and they were spotless then so I'm guessing my petcock screen may have punctured somehow. I could see a few tiny paint chips that were too big to make it past the screen for sure.
So, backfired once and ran rough until it sat for a few minutes, #2 looks like its been pretty lean in comparison to the others, slight debris in the carbs, tank vent isn't it- loose cap didn't help and the tach is suddenly jumping.
Any ideas? :[
