Chem Dip Canada
I'm getting ready to dip my VC carbs, and can't find a supplier for chem dip, is it available in canada? I was at AutoValue last night and they wanted $45 for a gallon of parts cleaner. Surely I can buy a L (quart) of it somewhere. Any hints?Tags: None

Gunk...
"Petroleum naphtha"
"2-butoxyethanol"
VM&P naptha might be a thing to try.
you can try simple green.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_Green "2-butoxyethanol"
washing soda dissolved in water and boil the bodies for 1/2 to 1 hour...
use some mechanical cleaning methods. (copper wire used to clean the jets)
quite a few possibilities out there you can try, before spending the "big" loonies...Last edited by rustybronco; 08-06-2009, 02:47 PM.

I was able to buy some Gunk hydroseal at a local autostore. I used that for my carbs. It was a 4 litre jug, cant remember how much tho. Seemed to be a milder cleaner than others I have heard about.

I had the same problem finding a 'carb dip' like what you can pick up south of the Canadian border, but had no luck. I had success with a product I got from PartSource called "Releasall". It comes in a black 4L jug, with a bright orange, blue and yellow label. I know another member on here had a lot of success with this product as well.
I did all 4 of my carbs by soaking them in this stuff followed by rinsing them in water and drying them with a shop towel and compressed air, and using a spray can of carb cleaner for the passages. The nice thing is there's no fumes with it, I got it on my bare hands and it didn't seem corrosive. The only issue I ran into was having to use a bit of Brasso on my choke slides as I think they reacted with the water and got a bit of a white film on them. I polished them with a touch of Brasso and in about 5 seconds they slid like new.
If you can find a smaller jug, I'd say go for that as I didn't even use 1L, though it could come in handy around the house.
Good luck!
