i know its not a gs but the kawi fourms suck
i recently got a 87 kawi ninja 750, i cleaned the carbs up and got it running really good but i think i screwed up big time LOL. after riding from ohio to new york on my way back it was hard to start it needed to be really pushed to get it going, so after the 7 hours home it hasnt started and i realised it was really low on oil i added almost 3 quarts and it only holds 4.1 my step father says i prolly scored the cylinders and thats why it was near impossible to start losing alot of compression. if this is the case which makes sense is it worth rebuilding the motor and would it probably just need to be honed and new rings or would i need a set of .10 over pistons or go all the way and go .30 over or so and rework it? i dont mean to post kawi on a suzuki forum but ive been here for awhile and the company is nice

Dear, ran it low on oil...
there are some things you may also want to look at. if it has a plain bearing crank, did it score the either the crankshaft or bearings and had it sustained scoring to the head and camshafts.

If it was my bike I'd pull the motor and check it out during disassembly. Normally I wouldn't go right to that, but from what you described there's no way to tell the real extent of the damage by any tests, so why go through them.
Next time check your oil levels before each ride. It takes only a few seconds.

It does have a plain bearing crank, and if it's picked up on a bearing, it's toast as these cranks crack when this happens.
Go straight to the core and drop the sump. Check what's in the bottom and on the pickup screen - if there's bearing material, look for another motor
If there's nothing there you got lucky & can look at the top end.
