Where can I find paint codes?

I'm looking to repaint my bike the OEM color. It's a 1981 GS850GX. It was originally blue - whatever that OEM color was - but a previous owner painted it Black Enamel (YUCK!! I hate enamel). Where can I find the OEM paint code for that color blue?

Also, does anyone know where I can find replacement decals for same bike?

Call Suzuki North American Headquarters at 714-572-1490. Tell them ALL the info on the bike.. Year, Model ( Complete with all the X, XS, ES, whatever), Original color ( If Known), VIN. They will give you the paint code and any other info they have on the bike. You can even ask them such things as when it was built, you can order copies of manuals FOR FREE while you have them on the horn, anything you can think to ask.. ask it.. they will have answers.

www.reproductiondecals.com should have the decals/pinstripes. The paint code you can get off the parts fiches of various websites like Babbittsonline.com or BikeBandit.com....Look thru the fiches, you'll see a spec sheet one, and it will list the paint colours/codes. Now, whether or not anyone still USES those codes remains to be seen. Some are still used, some arent or have been superceeded or what have you. You can always find a colour thats DAMN close in the paint shops tho if they cant mix up a batch of the OEM colour..

Cafe - ReproductionDecals.com had everything BUT mine. Thanks for the tip anyway. Babbittsonline.com had a fiche a little different than one I've been looking at. Anyway, they had the part # for the decals and the paint - it's called Marble Indigo BTW.

Well, the tank will be the same as the year before and the decals will, if i recall correctly, be the same style as well, just a different colour. You can call RD and ask if they can make them based on those styles with the correct colours..

NO PROBLEM.. I was a newby two years ago with a rusted hulk with no turn signals, brake calipers or anything and not a clue in hell what to do. Even with the code it's going to be a major long shot to find a store that has a formula for that code. Color-rite might be able to help but your best bet is to find a sample and have an auto paint store mix you up some by doing a color match.

Price is not too much different than auto paint. If you go with a major brand like PPG it will cost more.

the paint code for a blue 1981 GS850G is "10U" Marble Indego.

my '82 uses the same paint as yours (10U). I can have it scanned to PPG Delton DBU base coat, if you would like.

Holey Crap Rusty; That is awsome. That will save me a bunch of money. T nearly spent $350 on paint at the local store to "custom mix" the paint for my ED and there is in fact a color code cross match.

Looks like they would have anything you need. I will compare the PPG stuff I have with there offerings and maybe you can offer some suggestions.

The local auto paint store in my area will match the color for free as long as you buy the paint from them, which is not cheap. It costs about $35 - $50 per half pint for PPG/Omni base coat, and about 50% more for PPG DBC/DBU basecoat. The Omni basecoat sprays fine but some people report that it’s thin compared to the better PPG stuff. I don’t mind using the cheaper basecoat but I’m hesitant to use low rent primers and clears since that’s were the durability comes from.
