    what is this wire?

What is this red wire for? where does it go to?

Don't know exactly, but it looks like it should be connected to the positive terminal on the battery...

Is that "single" fuse block stock??

Well, if it were me, I would connect it under the nut where the red "positive battery cable" connects on the starter solenoid. it is used to put power to that auxiliary fuse.

Can you follow the wire to see what's at the other end?

It appears to be the power feed to the AUX fuse (by the way, the single AUX fuse is standard on the '79 bikes. From '80-on, it was part of the main fuse panel.). If so, it should connect to the battery side of the starter solenoid, underneath that black insulator that has the battery wire in it. Hikermikem suggested it should go to the positive side of the battery. If you route it to the starter solenoid, it will do the same thing, but keep the number of connections at the battery terminals down to a minimum.

Nah, I've been to Nowhere (Arizona), and that wire was not anywhere near there.
