    Stator testing.

Okay, so after the carb rebuild and valve job the bike is running great. However, the guy I bought the bike from said he had charging issues so I decided to run the test as per the manual I have and on the continuity test I have continuity between all 3 leads. When I run the bike at 5000 rpm's with a meter on the leads between every combo of the 3 leads i'm not getting good readings. Very very low if anything at all and sometimes negative readings. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? It says I need at least 75 between each lead and I'm getting nowhere near that. thanks for your help in advance.

What does you meter show for voltage when testing a 120V power outlet?

what were the resistance readings did you obtain across the stator windings?

what voltages are you getting from the stator with the meter in the A.C. position?

How about continuity to ground from the leads? When disconnected from the regulator there should be no continuity to ground from any of the leads. That is; no meter movement in the Ohms position, or no light or buzzer from a continuity check position on the meter.

If you are on an AC scale you can't get negative readings ... so check to make sure you have it set to AC when you do the test.

My meter shows 120 on an outlet. The meter is fine. I'll have to go back and do the test again to record the values as I can't remember I just know they weren't right. I ran the test on DC. Stupid mistake. thanks. I'll go back and do it on AC when I have someone around to hold the revs and 5 grand and report back. thanks again.
