besides buyin another set, what can you use to replace those plastic side covers?

Ok, going to rewire my 82 gs1100gk, figured I'd try to class it up a bit as well.

Those side plastic covers....any ideas without breaking the bank?

Found these on ebay, but don't want to spend the $$.

    Thanks!!

ok, found this post using the search option.

Learned that side panels can be used from other gs models, but is that the only option.....find a compatible set and spend that much on them?

Anybody hear make something for less than buying an original type set?

Yeah, that's way too much. You can still get them new from Suzuki, you'll have to look up the price on your favorite parts site. I think new will be cheaper than those.

If you're patient, they come up on the 'bay from time to time alot cheaper than that. I waited for about 6 months for a set to come up for my 750.

Don't know if the pic shows, but I made these from an old stop sign....for free!
Made a cardboard template, cut 'em out, pop riveted on some tabs, drilled some holes...simple, cheap and I think they look good.

The side covers you listed say "make offer".
think of an amount and push button... nothing to loose but time.

            Hi,

I've seen side covers made from various sheets of colored plastic, aluminum, even diamond plate. As Mr. Mark Harrop says, make a template and cut your material to shape. Then just fasten them with whatever is practical and convenient, zip ties, hose clamps, whatever. Or keep your eye on the ebay or the Parts Wanted section of this forum for a good deal.

            Thank you for your indulgence,

My 82 GS850G uses the same covers. They're a PITA to find but they do turn up.
              Just be patient.

Creative and the ability to reuse something that was otherwise trash...very cool!!

I really like the metal look, I would love to have that look on there. I'm not to handy when it comes to things like this but always up to learn something new.

You could try vacuum forming. But then you would need at least one good cover .

Vacuum forming sheet plastic into 3D shapes using the $40 make-it-yourself vacuum former from this "Instructable" http://www.instructables.com/id/E8RW98YF3C4...
