#2 ex. is now at .04mm with 2.55 shim, #1 ex. is .03 with 2.60, and #1 intake is at .04 with 2.55 shim. I know these numbers are with specs. but should I get smaller shims so the valves are not quite so tight? terrylee

valve adjustment
Did valve adjustment on 450 winter project today. Just wanted to run some of the numbers by you guys and see if you think I should get a couple of new shims.

Definitely change the #1 exhaust - it''ll be in spec at .08. You could leave the others as they are or you could go .01 too large on the gap - either is fine as long as you're happy checking the clearances on time next time. Plus, the next size down shims might be .01 thicker than marked (this is pretty common) and you're in spec.79 GS1000S

You did not list what #2 IN is.
Personally, I would probably change them. Are you using the spreadsheet I sent you? If you choose to use shims other than what it suggests, there is no problem. Just enter the size of the shim you left in there. It will just alert you that it's not what it suggested, but will accept it just fine.

#2 intake is .06 with 2.55. Plan on using your sheet but misplaced, so will reprint at work tomorrow. Guess I'll do as suggested and get a couple of new shims from ghost (shim club). terrylee
