When I pulled the carbs, there was gas in the intake tracts. I suspected needle and seats. Ok, bought new ones. Dissasembled carbs. They were hospital like clean, except for a little bit of sediment in the bowls. Blew compressed air though all the passages just for yucks. Checked floats for bouancy. Re-assembled carbs with new needles and seats, set float height. Cleaned air filters, synced carbs. NO DIFFERENCE!!!! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!!!!!

Tearing Hair Out
Ok, my 750 is running like a bag, of, you know what. It starts up fine, when accelerating away, pops, farts, misses and sounds like an old WW1 biplane. As long as you're on the gas, it seems ok, once it "cleans up." If I'm putting around town, it starts to load up again, doing the pop and fart thing. It seemed to smell gassy when parked in the garage after a ride, but after a day or so, no more. It always has, but more so now. I thought it might have something to do with running pods. Fuel mileage sucks now. These problems seem to have appeared overnight.

Sounds like you're running way lean, which is fairly typical after going from airbox to pods.
What's your main jet size? How do the needles look? What slot is the needle clip in? Are the jets and needles stock?
If you replaced the jets and needles with parts from a kit, be aware that the aftermarket kits often (usually) contain different size jets than the parts you need.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

Re: Tearing Hair Out
Kev, I would do two things before any further head scratching.
Check compression and check valve clearances.

Kevin, are you sure your not sucking air in somewhere your not supposed to? Maybe cracked lines or a bad carb boot?

Thanks guys, it gives me something to try. What bugs me is how it happened literally overnight. I've been running this system for YEARS, Boyer Bransden electonic ignition, pods, Jardine 4 into one exhaust system. The carbs have 112.5 mains, and a 5DL36 needle in the 4th groove, counting from the top. I'll check things out when I have a nice day. I've got too many bikes in the garage to even work on anything! :roll:Kevin

I'm thinking poor spark to at least one cylinder, probably two.
Have you taken any plug reads when it's having this problem? And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

Yeah, I'm thinking points too. They may need cleaned a bit and gapped correctly. They may also just be worn out and need replaced all-together. Make sure the timing is set ok as well.
Also...... is your battery going bad? Don't assume just because it reads 12.6 or 12.5 it's good. Have it load-tested at Auto-Zone or the like for free just to be sure.

I had a Bransden system fitted, was never awfully happy with it.Over time it started developing the same symptoms that you describe.Thinking that leccy ignition is "fit & forget" I thought it was the carbs, stripping, cleaning and balancing time and time again, until one day BANG!Puff of evil smelling blue smoke and no ignition!Took both coils out as well!   If you still have a points assembly try it out and see what happens.
