What's going on in your garage? Part II

Ok, no more of this track stuff. 1" of snow in GR tonight.

So, let's start this winter off with a BANG....

Helping out a friend of mine on one of his little projects. I need to shave and get cleaned up.....

    Clayton dyno

PC running labview to do the calcs

    Load cell

We have a little more work to do on it, but its moving along. We thought about doing an interface for the GS engine, but I plan to stick with the track as a test bed for now...

Who said anything about Winter, we were 70F yesterday in Dallas. Overnite lows in the 50's and highs in the upper 60's. Excellent riding weather.

No wonder you guys are able to come up with so many cool projects. It's not even Nov and you are already stranded in the garage!!!!!!

All joking aside, keep the cool photos coming and stay warm.

Well, what's going on is fixing the bike after i got cut down by some lady in an SUV... and just after i had got her "mostly" setup.

The only saving grace is I hadn't put my new USD front end on her.

So my winter is all lined up. Should be interesting to see the final results, once completed.

i'll post some pre, post and eventually fixed photos when i'm back home.

The GS is getting all her wires soldered. Maybe paint. Disasembly and fine cleaning.

The old cb350 is getting roadworthy.

Well, the Mighty Buffalo is currently being taken apart and prepped for paint sometime next month. At least the tank, side covers and front fender. The frame will probably be done later.

And,...... A new project is in the works, a Suzuki Titan to be set up to run in the AHRMA Formula 500 class. We'll see how that goes.

              Winter Works

I plan to do a lot of things for my bike:
Shocks, tail-lights, exhaust, Accel Coils/Ignition, paint (not frame, though), Front brakes, stainless lines, stainless bolts, intake boots, and valve cover gasket. It'll also need to be fine tuned, but that'll be for the spring.
I sure will be busy!! Will post pics of the progress....I live in a condo, so I am going to put the bike in my "parked" van and work on it in there...

All of these projects going on, and I am still shopping for my GS!
To answer the origional question, though, the current project in my garage (read: barn) is cleanup. Nothing's currently organized, so I've got to get that done before anything else. All of my camping gear is crowding the bicycles that are over-running the yard tools. And somehow I've got to get the old go-cart out of the loft! Oh yeah, and for some reason the electricity's gone.

My winter project (hah, I was wearing shorts today, low 80's) is to get the #%$ing, piece of @@#$ bike RUNNING!

Sorry, my fuse is getting a little short with this project. Between missing parts and SERIOUS lack of funds (read: $500 total repairs (parts mainly, I did most of the work) on wife's car) my bike hasn't been out from under the tarp in over three weeks. Thanks to a fellow GS'er, I'm getting a CDI, which makes me a little happier. Still to go: Honda R/R, gaskets, stainless bolt kit (phillips screws SUCK), battery and 12 hours of chopping connectors and soldering/heat shrinking. And that's just to GET IT RUNNING!

If the planets align and it does run fairly well, then I'll need to get a seat (or intact seat pan, or fabricate the damn thing myself), headlight assy (probably basic chrome bucket), blinkers, front fork air fittings (idiot broke them off overtightening the covers), chain, choke and throttle cables, rear brake pads, fabricate side covers, install the new handlebars, and etch and line the tank.

See you guys on the road sometime in 2010........:-D

Snow not even sticking yet and I am getting a lot done.

Sent the exhaust over to Airborn Coatings to be stripped and coated. It was starting to get a little too much rust and I wanted to stop it before it got any worse. I heard a lot about the aluminum ceramic coatings. We will see how it holds up. Their only concern was not to hot lap the bike. I guess they coat both the inside and out. I was worried about the stuff flaking off on the inside then getting sent into the turbin. I guess it's not an issue.

I will post a few pictures once it returns.

Well got the bike halfway apart, lets see where I should start. Bend some valves, bent a timing chain link too????, broke my clutch basket, also put a few teeth marks on the crank from the ring gear, need to replace my slick and front tire.

What hurts the most is my son's XR80 kick the crap out of me and put one hell of a knot on my right leg when my foot slipped of the kick starter. So i'm in no big hurry to do anything plus they say we might get some snow tonight.....what the hell is that

                          recent work

                          650gl

tear down motor, replaced transmission (it worked, no more slipping out of 2nd)
valve seals, but otherwise didn't mess with cylinders (could still see hone marks)

after driving awhile did valve adjustments

did valve adjustments on the two 1000's. Had never been done on the 1000LN. They were all still 2.70 and 2.75 at 60,000 miles!!!! most went down to 2.50/2.55 (this means there was 0.008" valve opening 360° around)

lots of valve adjustments, I am now quite good at it.

am starting to work on my friends 81 Honda CM400A (hondamatic). the tank is trashed, if you have a good one let me know. seat replacement, carb work, top end, the works. also seems like the stall on the torque converter is off.

Let's see...valve adjust last night, Racetech internals for gsxr forks going on the 1100. Stripped and repainted the valve cover, oil pan, and ignition housing. Found nice Duplicolor high heat paint called "Cast Coat Aluminum", and then hit it (valve cover) with clear coat. Ignition cover just got polished and coated with clearcoat. Looks great.

gsxr rims will be stripped and painted over christmas break; waiting for spiegler adapter kit so I can mount the gsxr front end.....busy busy.

After seeing what another member did for mounting bars to his gsxr triple, I think I am gong to go that way, as opposed to 300 bucks for Speigler adapter....stripped sanded and polished the counter sprocket cover yesterday...looks great, especially given how nasty it was when I started! Will try some 1500/2000 grit sandpaper this week, and do some more polishing, and then clearcoat it as well. Stator cover will be next. Going to buy a new emblem for the stator cover and the ignition cover as well. Any suggestions on how to get the old emblems off? Prying?
