    1100 w/small crank taper...

How easy do these break? I just picked up an 1100 motor with the small taper. I need a starter clutch/rotor for it, but I'm wondering if it will be worth messing with. It's only going to be a street bike, so no turbos or crazy cams.

Anybody ever snap one at the oil hole?

I can't mortgage my house right now to get a crank done up...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but the 1980 crank is the one with the oil hole in it. The later model small tapers aren't hollow like the 80 is. I broke a hollow left end on my dragbike. It ran several seasons outboard starting and then almost a season with the stator/starter clutch on the end. Broke right as I shifted into third.

I still run the small taper, but I have GRC put a late model small taper on for me. Never a hollow end again.

With a street bike, that you aren't putting 200 horsepower to, you will be fine unless the crank has an internal flaw you just can't see & you would be screwed anyway. Ray.

Any of you guys have a small taper rotor/starter clutch you would be willing to part with?

I think I'm just going to run it and see what happens.
