GSXF Katana forks and carbs question.

I'm looking to upgrade my 85 GS700E and I might have a line on an 88 600 Katana not too far away. The bodywork is all gone (except the front fender) and supposedly it has not been wrecked so the front end should be good.

Does anybody know if the forks off of an 88 600 Katana are the same as the later years? I know that the rims are different but not sure about the forks. I'm also not sure about the size of the carbs - does anybody know if they are the same as the 750 Katanas? I wonder if the brake rotors and calipers are the same... Any other parts that could be swapped??

    Thanks,

    Hugh

    Hugh,

88 is the bastard year. If the wheels on it are six spoke then the wheels and rotors are 88 600 only. Even the cush drive only fits the 88 600. Forks are the same as 89-97 600 . 89-97 KAtana 600 and 750 use the same wheels, ( 3spoke wheel looks like small GSXR wheels) brakes etc but the 600 and 750 use different forks and tripleclamps. The 89-97 stuff is a good swap for you but I'd stay away from the 88-only stuff. The rear wheel and brake etc will slot right into your swingarm and the whole front end will go in your frame but you will need to fab up some steering stops.
Carbs are not the same between 600 and 750 kats. They will physically fit on your motor but they are small and not a good swap.

Steering stops is an easy fix, drill and tap frame for a 6mm bolt on each side. I have 600 parts on mine, best mod ever. Cheap and plentiful on e-bay.
