    Busa Front End?

    Has anyone ever thought to use a Busa front end? I know it doesn't look nostalgic, but for the prices of these on Ebay-they are cheap! Would it be a fit with some spacers or other mods, or am I asking too much? The 92' GSXR fronts look modern and still look good. I wonder...

    Going from 35 or 37 mm (depending on model) to the 50mm of the Busa. It would probably be easier to swap necks out from Busa to the GS frame. Then youd be able to use the entire steering stem and fork clamp setup. Im not sure you have the material needed in the GS trees to mill out to allow the Busa tubes to fit.

        Yep done it a couple of times
        the busa steering stem is shorter & thicker than th gs one so the easiest solution is to press the busa one out & make up a new stem to suit the busa yoke & the gs bearings

        You will also find that the busa forks are shorter than your gs ones so depending on your exact model of gs you may need to sort a stepped top yoke to regain the lost height you wont want to be using the stock busa top yoke anyway (ugly as sin) erly tl1000 top yokes fit & are better looking

        One thing to watch out for with busa (& tl1000) forks is that the chrome on the stauntion wares quickly so if there is any brass colour showing the seals will leak & theres very little you can do about it apart from an expensive re-chrome

            I suggestd Franks a while back to Kaman, and I think he actually called and checked into it and Franks does not supply stantions for SD forks .

                Guys, those are some very valid points. I think you may be right as far as cutting off the neck and welding on a GS one.

                Tone-thanks for the tip about the copper showing = cash!!! Also, you are saying the stem CAN be pressed out? I always assumed it was one piece. Do you know how much shorter it would be than the stock GS? The price on the Busa fronts are CHEAP. It may be a wash if I have to have a new neck welded. That mean's I'll have to build a jig first to make sure she's nice and straight.

                  I've been to Frank's site, the $250 just for the chrome tubes is what is having me think about doing a whole front end off another bike for $250.00. If I find a pitfree set of ebay for around $75-$100 or so, I'll go that route. I'm taking my time and want to think it through. She's all stripped down in my garage anyway.

                      You do not need to cut the headstock ! no jig required & the cost of having a steel headstock made would be much more than having a new steering stem turned up to suit
                      The busa steering stem is held into the bottom yoke by a snap ring as are most late model suzuki's, you will need a press to remove it as they are tight
                      From memory the busa steering stem is around 1/2" shorter than the gs & the forks themselves 1.5" shorter check that though as its been a while

                      Custom bearings for doing this swap are not available here in the uk so the above is the only real safe way we can do the swap imo machining a bearing to fit is dangerous in the extreme

                        I have Hayabusa forks on my GT. All that needs to be done is change out the bearings and it bolts right up. Easy.

                            Thanks Brother! The only other mod I had to do was weld on new stops.

                            It was a lot easier than I thought it would be, at least once I was pointed in the right direction for bearings.

                            Come on down to Chattanooga and we'll put a set on your bike.

                              hayabusa direct fit onto a 1978 gs1000 with no mods. it bolted righ up as if it were made for it bearings and all. the only thing i had to do is cut off the bottom plate from the bottom of the neck (lock plate). everything else just lined right up. speedo was a challenge though..
