Newb question: New controls on old bike?

    hello,

i just got my 1st vintage bike, a 1978 GS 750C. the bike i owned last was a 2005 GSX-R 600. today i went to the bike graveyard in town to shop for some parts for my GS750, and hoped to find some mag wheels. i didnt find any wheels but i did see a few wreaked but complete 2000-2008 GSX-R's of various models and i was wondering if i can take those levers, master cylinder, and controls and use em on my GS750? maybe even the speedo/tach? i know the speedo/tach will probably be impossible but worth an ask. any other parts off of those bikes i will be able to use on my ol' 750?

    thanks,

Why not just take the whole front suspension off of the newer bike and fab that up to the 750 frame? New levers, gauges, brakes, suspension, wheels, tires,...

i am going the cafe route with the bike so i'll be using the stock suspension just to skip the pains of fabricating stuff. i only want the buttons and levers. anyone know if they will work?

I've got a front master assy from an '01 gsxr 750 on my '83 750 es. The switch assy's will need the wire connectors changed over.

Some might work, some might not but your back to fabricating stuff. Ever think of skipping the pains of this post?

Spedo for the GSXR is (i would guess) not mechanical like your GS so that would not be a bolt on transfer. You would have to take a look and evaluate each part.

If you plan on doing a suspension conversion, make no plans to ride your bike for about a year...

The switches will need some thought and possibly new connectors, but a switch is a switch and shouldn't be that hard to figure out. I have 2nd gen GSXR switches on my '82 1100 and they work just fine. I was able to change over to push-to-cancel blinkers from the crappy self-canceling setup in the process.
The speedo will be the biggest challenge. It works off of a rotor/sensor arrangement on the front sprocket. You would have to somehow fit the rotor behind the front sprocket and then mount the sensor inside of the front sprocket cover.
Then the tach and idiot lights need to be sorted out, though probably not as bad as the speedo. And after all of that, if you don't have a fairing on your bike, you will have an ugly backside of the gauge package exposed.
                Not worth the trouble IMO.
