engine revs by itself to 4,000 rpm
I just replaced the stator and had a bitch of a time with that, cracked the crankcase cover a little near one of the bolts. I am going to just try and jb weld it real good and see how that turns out but for some reason when you rev the engine and let off the throttle it will rev back up by itself to about 3500/4000 rpm. Any ideas why this is happening?Tags: None

Throttle cable pinched somewhere? Does it make a difference if you trun the bars left or right? Did it do this before replacing the stator?

Intake leak is most likely causing the high idle. Check the carb manifolds for cracks and such. If they are the bolt on type manifolds the o-rings behind them need to be replaced. Carbs could have bad o-rings in them too.
As for the crank in the cover, are you talking about the stator cover itself? If so the stator cover doesn't get much oil in it. If the crack isn't on the bottom of the cover I doubt it will leak. Clean the hell out of it and use some sort of epoxy to fill the crack.

i had the same problem with my 450...i took the boots between the motor and the carbs off and the o-rings were shot...so replace those and possibly u will need to go ahead and rebuild the carbs while you have them off. should fix the problem
