79 1000S..26s or 29s
I am on the fenece with these 29s . I have put the stock exhaust back on the bike. I got the stock 26 getting them rebuilt from Chef. I am also planning on putting the stock airbox back on. Now what would the masses suggest here..put the 26s back on also, or try to get these 29s tuned to work in a stock environment?? Any pros about keeping the 29s as far as performance goes? I would try to seel them here to a member first Ed..and they wont lowball me either cuz i have seen the light as to what they are worth..Saw a post where someone sold a set for over 1000.00..If i sell them here they wont leave my possession for less than 450.00 thats for sure!! may get way more on Ebay but i dont have any means to take a pciture or post it there..such is life.Last edited by chuck hahn; 03-14-2011, 02:10 PM.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I didnt want to waste my time and run around looking for stuff..i got way too much on my plate already..for 100.00 its worth it for me..besides he doing the CVs for the 1100 as well so WT heck. I just dont wanna be bothered with anything else right now. The S leaks from the cam cover, it needs the valves done, I gotta install the stock airbox and take the 29s off, and i will need to retorque the head bolts to see if the very minor head gasket leak stops. I kinda got Fed on this deal!!! I gotta take the C tank around and see if thats fixable..just am not in the mood to dink around with carbs. Chuck, go with the 26s. You can still go plenty fast with the stock set up1978 GS 1000 (since new)

BIG T..Oh yeah, i am teachable. I just get really frustrated trying to read and make sense of whats trying to be passed on.. I think many times people forget that NOT EVERYONE is at their level of experience and understanding of termanology. The best running bike i have is the 78 750 E. I put new plugs in it and took her for a 45 mile ride this evening to check the plugs. I dont have a place to "pull in the clutch, shut it off and coast to a stop..then pull the plugs to see what colors they are", so the best i can do is ride it a ways and come back to the gargae and pull them and see how they look.After 41 miles they all look very lighly tan about half way down the center insulators and all very close in shades as well. It may be just a tad rich, but a bit rich is better than to lean, at least thats my opoinion. Now the next task is to pull the carbs off the 77and set them up baselined as Josh ( The Cafe Kid ) has told me too and see where they are at with the new plugs. As i see it right now the 78 750 is about as good as i can seem to get it. What i really need is someone close to me with LOTS of verified experience to come over and go thru them with me so i can do more hands on training.
