    Lockhart Oil Cooler Adapter Gasket

    Hello,
    I have this same Lockhart oil cooler adapter on my GS1000 2 Valve motor but I still don't know where to source this black O-ring adapter ring show below. Humbly asking where to find one or what works in place of ? Mine is shot

    Again need a new black fat circular gasket shown in the center.

    1979 GS1000E (44 Yrs), 1981 GPz550

    I have no idea where you can get a new one, but that one you have doesn't look too bad. Why do you want to change it?

      Make something! Find a grommet or rubber insulator of similar type, drill a hole or modify it. There has got to be some type of plumbing gasket for a faucet or some type of o-ring.

              HEY I took offense to that. Kidding, If you need any dimesions off that rubber let me know.

              (Some of those prices are "make me sell it prices" as a few of them I wanna keep for my bike but would let go if it was worth while)

                Steve, I suspect something like this would work for what you need.

                the one I sent to flyboy used something similar to a cap plug on it.

                  That would be very helpful because mine is smushed: I think we can source that rubber grommet if we have the following information:

                  1. Inside Diameter (ID) which faces down towards the engine case
                  2. ID which slips over the thermostat tower (Largest ID)
                  3. OD which faces down towards the engine case
                  4. Overall Height of the Grommet removed

                  Does that cover the functional dimensions guys? If I we could get the dimensions taken with a Dig Caliper that would be great.

                    I will have too look but the lip of the cap plug should be very wide to produce a good seal with the engine oil gallery port. That one in the first link is likely to narrow, Just my 2 cents

                      I have a good one around here and as I will be going that direction tomorrow anyway,
                      I will stop by Kaman Bearing and see what Scott can pull out of his sleeve.
                      A part number at least, hopefully.

                          KAMAN Industrial Products did not have what I needed.
                          Instead, I was off to my favorite Hydraulic parts store where I found two options.
                          We measured the thickness of the installed seal and came up with a Viton O-ring at .070 that would compress to the .050 of the used part.
                          Also found a U-Cup Seal that would fit the bill.
                          The Viton will handle higher temps that the U-Cup Seal that is rated to 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
                          Either part would have to be glued on with Permatex Ultra Copper or Ultra Black to hold them in place for installation.
                          Here are your choices, prices and their part numbers:

                            Great stuff. Going in my favorites.

                            Also wondering if the adapter from the 1000 will fit my 550. I know I could just check it, but my bike is at my friends shop and he's still without power at the moment.

                              I think the U-seal is the ticket if it slips into the thermostat tower like the Unobtanium OEM Part. We have a P/N but what company do I order from? Unless you want to be middleman and take a Paypal payment
