    83model to 82model crankshaft swap

I am thinking of upgrading to a 83 gs1100 large end crank into a 82 gs1100 small end crank engine. The 83 is complete with starter clutch, gear, rotor etc. What is needed to install the 83 in an 82, Like will we need a new stator, and, L.H. crankcase cover or any thing else. A little off base here just for personal info I have a Falicon 82 billet small end installed now on my daily driver 1168 cc 348 cams.$249 from Falicon but out of stock at this time and said they are in the process of building some small ends now. Honestly I have not bent or twisted one yet, out of 3 that I have installed in the past, in mine and customers with good luck so far. I believe it is a good upgrade for the small end cranks. Anyway. But a customer has a 83gs1100 crank recently rebuilt, with the 493 rods, new rod bearings, main bearings, welded. trued, balanced etc. He got it for cheap in exchanging some parts and has had several offers but would really like to keep it and run it his self. So I thought I would ask the experts first before dropping a bunch more bucks and see if it is worth the change. He is wanting a low compression ,mild cam 1260 cc daily driver. Any help is appreciated in letting us know what we are in for. Thanks to all.

I think you will need the crank, rotor, stator and left hand cover. At least those were needed when a friend of mine did similar swap. On second thought that was a Katana engine that has smaller rotor and stator. So you might be able to re-use original stator and cover.

I know the Katana motor needs the rotor, stator, crankcase cover etc. doing to everything being smaller diameters, I don't think the 1100 e motors need all those changes. I will go on-line with Suzuki Connect here a little later and do a parts comparison. I know I wanted to go to the Kat parts a few years ago when a friend was wanting to vintage road race and install all the lighter and smaller parts, and it was extremely costly and some parts were discontinued If I believe correctly.

ALL of the 1100E's used the same size stator. The crank is an easy swap. All you will need is gaskets & the piston pin circlips. Ray.
