Oil pressure and gauge
Hi all, Just put an oilcooler and take off (XR69 type) on the GS1000. Before I did this the oil light worked fine, but now it just flashes at me till at high rpm, then finally goes off. I've got a high-ratio oil pump and gears on the bike, and I've checked that I'm getting oil going where it should:and it is very much so LOL (mopping oil off the floor) So I was thinking, what should the oil pressure be on a GS1000? I was also thinking of putting an oil gauge on the bike, so where would be the best place to take a line off the engine to go to a gauge ? I was thinking from the oil fillter cover? Or where the oil light sender is?Tags: None

When it's cold (engine first fired up), you might see about 10 psi. When it warms up, you might see about 3-4 psi.
There is a bolt near the right-rear corner of the cylinder block that will give you a good location for a pressure reading.
Your light is probably on because you tapped in to the oil flow before the flow sensor (it's not much of a 'pressure' sensor).sigpic

Unless the oil cooler take off adapter fits down tightly over the oil feed port you will get bypass and the light will flicker. Some of the adapters like Lockhart had a rubber seal to assure no leakage. You might want to verify you are not leaking internally. With a properly functioning system the light should not flicker like described.Last edited by Nessism; 10-24-2014, 08:12 AM.Ed
