      Brilliant find, real propper project!
My GS1000G is/was in a similair state, just strip it buy the parts that matter and need relpacing, sand, scrub and sand some more till you can paint the others and with a bit of elbow grease and effort, You can make a wonderfull classic ride bike out of your bike.
$50 for it means you can afford to spend a decent amount on it and still be in front by miles once finnished!

Boy I can sympathize with the teeth thing , went through it a couple years ago , the pain was distracting to say the least.

Judging by the pics I would say you are the proud owner of a ported head !

I predict this thing is going to be SCARY fast when you get it running .

        Rock on

OH man Rat don't i know it... I haven't been able to sleep some nights, I am going to see a oral surgeon to get my wisdom teeth out (im 28 for crying out loud)... In anycase, I was wondering if you knew if that gum out carb cleaner is ok to spray into the carbs, I did not see any sign of varnish on the valves.

Ported head? Forgive me but does that that mean there was some boring/porting done to my engine to increase performance?

Any help is appreciated!!! I'm in the process of cleaning the rust from the tank... meow. =^.^=

Man that thing is full of go fast goodies..

Those are definitely not the stock VM carbs.

I wouldn't be surprised if you find a set of yosh cams and a few extra CC's in the motor..

Awesome score! Much better than the roach I just "drug home outta the garbage"!

Are you doing a restoration project of some kind on a GS? Let everyone see what you are doing by posting the details here.

Looks like someone dumped a heap o' lovin' on that thing in days past!
As for your aluminum bits; I would invest in a bench buffer such as this one.

You won't be sorry. Best of luck! I'll keep watching for progress...

OK I cant say for sure from just the pic .
but those ports look a little too fresh ( meaning they probably were ported )
especially considering the patina on the outside

Seriously I think your bike has had much go fast work done just before it was parked .

As for the carb cleaner thing , I wouldn't do it , I would take the carbs apart and do them properly.

                my 2 cents

Lots of go fast goodies on that one. I'd be surprised if it didn't have cams in it.
You best restore that one proper.

Has there been any progress on this bike? You can always sell it to me you know; I'll take extra special care of it

I have a few new pics taken today, just moved it into the Garage. I didn't get the key till last night, but low and behold... Zook tools!

Any thoughts? I'm taking my wife out to eat and won't be back till a bit later. Thanks!
HMMM!!! Anyone notice the Yosh sticker on the rear brake caliper arm? It would be neat if it wasn't just because of the pipe

I know a guy in Bangor who works on old bikes as a hobby business. He's pretty sharp and pretty experienced at resurections. PM me and I'll give you his contact information. He lives down the street from my ex wife, off of Hammond street not far from the Fairmount Market.

Pretty decent guy. He's always got an interesting and revolving stable, and his prices are extremely reasonable.
