And Ive been going over the internals in my head and the clutch basket is my most likely suspect as well. Youll know soon enough.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I pulled both side covers, drained the oil by tipping the engine and letting the oil run out the clutch side. I'm 100% positive the starter clutch is bad. It clunks, locks up when you turn it and has a side to side wobble. She's junk!

Yup...she sounded bad when we cranked her a bit...wasnt sure if it was maybe loose bolts or even a broke one...bet that was the biggest reason it was pushed aside. Guys probably had no clue what it was or how to fix. probably thought the sound was a broke crank and just shoved it to the barn and abandoned it.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Chuck and I were just discussing how difficult a project this was to take on. I though I would post a picture of what I started working with. She's truly a diamond in the rough! Heavy on the rough...

That's one sad looking starting point, but the right guy is on the job. Pete's 450 was pretty rough when he started too, but he's got a jewel now.Ed

Good Times
Amazing stuff for sure SV.
That rim just looks well preserved. Needs a little excavation though.

Ed, I was just thinking the exact same thing. I wonder who's bike was rougher, Petes or mine. I think this one's condition has His beat by a mile.
I think we're running neck and neck on who's persevering the most. His build has been one of the Inspirations to get this project done properly. He's good peoples AND a scotch lover I might add.

Awww shucks I'm blushing here! Hahaha
Nah seriously, Dale yours takes the cake with the roughness for sure, mine was neglected by yours truly, not buried in who knows what like yours!
Glad I've inspired you though, it's good to see my 450 has done more than just given me lots of pleasure
And Ed, cheers for the compliment, it is very greatly appreciated!1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie
