How's the heft of that tank now Dale? That Caswell's stuff is THICK! Did you mix up the complete batch, or just half?Ed

Ed, it doesn't seem a great lot heavier than before I started but the tank wasn't in too bad of a shape to begin with.
I waited until the temperature dropped below 80 degrees then I mixed the full kit up believing that it would be easier to get full coverage if I did, plus I added about an ounce of lacquer thinner into part A (?) and mixed it up before mixing it with part B. It was runnier than I expected. I don't know if that was because of the age of it or not, but it covered and started to set up very nicely in about an hour which was right in line with what the directions stated.
I ended up loosing about half the mixture to the table top, rags, floor and what I did capture when untaping the petcock opening. I just seemed to drain endlessly. Ran through quite a few latex gloves trying to keep the epoxy off of everything in addition to my hands. All in all I was pleased with the product, but if I were to do it again on this particular tank I probably would have went with por-15 only because of the color.

Yeah, Por-15 looks nicer being silver colored. Caswell's sells a red colored sealing epoxy but who wants a red tank? At any rate, it's done now so you get to move forward...Ed

Because a hammer and drift wasn't cutting it, I had to use the hydraulic press at work in order to remove the rivets from the clutch basket. I'll need to borrow a drill press from a friend in order to enlarge the holes in the clutch basket and in the steel spacers that originally resided on the rivets in order to use the HD rivets (11.1mm) the came with the backing plate.
Picture of what I'm referring to later this evening.Last edited by rustybronco; 06-11-2014, 03:26 PM.

Tried the biggest hammer I had!
The old rivets that came in the clutch were 3/8" the new ones in the kit are 7/16". Drilling the aluminium basket is the easy part. Fixturing and drilling the metal sleeves are not. Now if I had that old Southbend I passed on years ago...
I might try drilling a 7/16" hole through two metal plates then centering and clamping the bushings between them in order to keep the drill bit centered properly in the bush.

I drilled out all three bushings but one ended up getting drilled off center. I friend of mine made a few replacement bushings to replace the one I fudged up. I got the use of a drill press tonight and drilled the 3/8" holes in the basket out to the 7/16" necessary for installing the HD rivets. Assembled the basket and I will be picking up some Excalibur 309/309L-16 this week so I can weld it back together.
