My 1980 Suzuki GS1000G

I've got the POR-15 chassis black to paint the frame and all the tid bits with.

POR is great stuff but be advised it doesn't handle UV rays very well. I'd use it as an undercoat then topcoat with something that is UV stabilized.

Get yourself a reverse drill bit (or a set of them). They do what they say, drill in reverse rotation. A lot of times, especially when the bolt ins't completely seized up, they will remove the bolt as you're drilling into them.

If you look closely you'll notice I resolved the grommet issue, and just my kind of price, $2.

I have the same seat cover. High quality. Keep it clean and protected and it will last forever

I picked them up at our local Canadian Tire but any hardware store should have something like them in their housewares section or maybe the plumbing section. I just hunted around till I found something that worked.

So picked up a titanium drill bit, it snapped off inside the broken bolt...nice. The heads currently at the machine shop and their not sure if they'll be able to fix it but we'll see in a couple of days.....arrrrrrrrrrrr

Personally, I try a small nut over the broken off stud and Mig or Tig them together.

Ya that works great when you can get at the bolt but unfortunately the hole is very small and the the bolt is down inside it...arrrrrr. I shouldn't complain too much, I do have a spare engine but I've already cleaned, painted, honed and assembled this one so I'm trying to be lazy I guess

Nice, I didn't realize they had UV stuff now. Good to know as I'll be painting a frame in the hopefully near future.

Great product, one thing to note I had to thin it out 5% more than what they recommend. Of course I've yet to have the bike on the road and truly test out the product.

Well $47 later I have a new helicoil in the head and a functioning threaded hole. Frickin' aluminum!



Tomorrow I'll throw the cams back in (I hope) and button up the block. Although I was thinking of putting the engine back as it is and putting the head on after to save on the weight. Might be smart, but I usually don't do things the smart way

Well done. That sure was a set back.

I did a similar thing. Got all the seized exhaust bolts out and was feeling pretty good about my mechanical skills, then stipped a stupid little screw on the front brake fluid reservoir.

Just came across your thread and noticed there was a long break between March and October. I guess you were out riding? I'm asking because I am very interested in the motivational side of these projects.

My own project is only 70 days old and I am very motivated but I know it will probably be 2 years before I get my motor spinning again and I want to stay focused.

The long hiatus was due to getting other bikes running for the season. Once I saw I was not going to be able to have this one ready I had to turn make sure my other bike was up to it. We put a lot of miles on her this year and she did great. Too many projects not enough time I guess. Maybe it's better to only have one or two bikes instead of seven?.......naaaaa.

Finally managed to get the engine back together. Now I realize I need a rolling frame to put this thing somewhere.







One of the more tedious jobs to be done that's for sure. I wound up taping the edging and using petroleum jelly on the smaller inside edges. I'll see how it turns out later today. I'm using VHT caliper paint, satin black.

Arrrrrr......so the other day the temperature dropped and the dampness began and a whole bunch of the paint on the engine just started flaking off. Dang Dupli-colour!! not exactly sure why it's doing that but now I've got to prep and paint the whole frickin' thing AGAIN! I've never used this product and the colour isn't exactly what I want (too bright and shiny) but the fact that they make an engine primer that I can buy here in Canada is great so I'll give it a try.

I have had good luck with PJ1 stuff, Lordco use to carry it. It isn't cheap but it goes on very well and looks great. Where did you get your plating done?
