    Half Cafe Racer Half Bagger?

    Has anyone thought of doing a GS as a cafebagger mix? im thinking about it and just wanted to get some input before I dive into something like this

      A cafe racer with bags?

      I think at some point people should stop trying to 'categorize' their motorcycles. This is just getting absurd.

      Cafe
      Brat
      Bobber
      Bagger
      Scrambler
      Chopper


      I can't keep em straight anymore!


      However if your dream is to build a bike with the stance and performance attributes of a 'cafe racer' but with the practicality of having bags, then go for it. Just try not to any permanent damage to yourself of your motorcycle.

            Sounds like a contradiction of terms, but they are just that - terms. Try this. Build what will make YOU happy without regard to categories, ride the hades out of it and have fun...

              It's more "bagger" than "cafe", but take a look at my son's bike in my sig.

              It's a 650L with lower bars (Daytona? Superbike?), a small windshield and Harley saddlebags.

                Yes, a long distance bike with a very uncomfortable seat, bars and riding position, or a tiny little racer with huge bags that add a ton of weight and hit the ground when you even think about cornering. Whats not to like?

                  Big contradiction in terms isn't it but as the others say its only words. Build any damn thing you want. I can't see it myself since a "cafe" is designed to be minimalistic, lithe and agile with a bagger not so much. Hanging bags on it contradicts the foregoing but its your bike and whatever turns your crank.

                  Go for it and don't forget the pics.

                    They're called sport tourers. Like the KG1000 Concours, Honda ST1100/1300, etc.
                    Thats what I did with my Yam XS750, vetter bags, fairing, lowers, touring seat, & Kerker exhaust! Am doing it now with the GK. Taking off anything that doesn't add to my ability to cover alot ot miles & curves quickly & comfortable while carrying all my "stuff" (raingear, misc tools, emergency prep. lots of layers of clothes + what ever I buy, GF too!
                    If I had more money, I'd have a Duke 1000 Multistrada w/bags.(wish they had ABS though)
                    I can go shopping on the way home from work & bring home the groceries quickly with a smile on my face. It beats the pants off those harleys, literally.

                        If what you're going for is the cafe riding position (lower bars, possibly rearsets) but with saddlebags, that's kind of what I was going for on my GS750. I ended up with the Vetter Quicksilver fairing when the headlight shell disintegrated while trying to attach a small windscreen. A full cafe position with clip-ons and rearsets doesn't make for a practical riding position for long enough to need luggage. For solo touring, superbike bars, rearsets if that's comfortable for you, and some small luggage is an ideal way to go, IMO.

                        I always tended toward a top case for everyday storage, with soft bags for traveling, because that's cheaper to do. Now that I picked up a Concours with hard saddlebags, I'm leaning toward just adding a rack I can attach a tailpack to for extra storage when traveling.
