    Seat resurrection

Pulled the cover and foam off my L seat to find out why it felt like it was collapsing, base was incredibly rusty so knocked together an electrolytic bath to clean it up with little or no further damage and to try and resurrect it if at all possible.

Google rust removal by electrolysis. Easy and works really well.

Life is too short to ride an L.

Here is a good description of how its done and all i did was add an ammeter and use a pinch of steel wool under every connection in the circuit which helps maintain current flow and wire the scrap electrodes in parallel not in series so if one connection fails it does not take out the whole circuit.
I used an old battery charger capable of 7 amps but going to replace the 1/2 wave rectifier with a full wave one so as to double potential current flow which will greatly speed up the process. If charger has no overload or short circuit protection a light bulb of require wattage put into the circuit from the charger/power supply will limit current flow in the event of a short.I ****ed around with a computer power supply till it finally exploded, battery charger seemed heaps safer

Got the old girl up and running now fitted with new dyna-s ignitor.hasnt started as well ever in the 3 years time spent valve shimming, rebuilding and setting up the carbs may just have paid off.Have spent past year trying to track down the erratic running behavior till finally sent dyna s back to be tested .
Now the pressure is to get a seat done so having a bit of sheet metal to hand i gave it a bit of a bashing for an hour and formed up a new front half piece to be welded to the ok rear half,if it doesnt work can always pay for the one listed here though it is quite a bit of a different shaped base.

I have to admire the tenacity of those who try to resurrect these old machines when parts are not as available as in the USA or Canada. We are fortunate to have a huge graveyard of parts either locally or on ebay. I would have just picked up a better replacement seat and moved on.
