Removing stickers from the petrol tank

    Hi,

What is the best way to remove stickers that have been on my tank for a few years or more ??

They wont peel off at all, so thought i would ask here for some tips

    Thank you,

WD-40 sometimes works. What kind of stickers?

What's petrol? Oh you mean "gas tank" (just kidding , I'm a transplanted Scot)

How about a heat gun or high powered hair dryer. Warming up the sticker should cause the glue to get soft and you should be able to peel them off. Keep the gun moving mind you as it could bubble tha paint on the tank. Once they're off you can clean up the residue with paint thinners or products like "GooGone" if you have it over there ( try paint stores, auto stores or building supply places).

      Welcome aboard by the by.

I believe they are Vinyl Stickers

I will try the WD40, but i can't try the hair dryer trick, cos i dont have power at my garage & my garage is about a mile away from my house & the GS is on a S.O.R.N at the moment, so cant bring it home

Ronson Lighter Fluid is good for cleaning the glue off, and may soften the vinyl.

You may need to unbolt the tank and move it to a location with electricity though, and use the heat gun. It isn't that difficult.

Seems like a good plan. Heat would be best for vinyl I'd think. I don't think WD will do anything unluss it can get under the sticker.

Let us know how it works for you.

            Good luck,

I believe GooGone is just Xylene and it's much cheaper to buy the can labeled Xylene

If the paint and clear is good then JUST MAYBE it could be wheeled out again and see if it blends abit.
