I use the OEM rubber gasket and I've had no leakes. I've had to use a white thread sealer for the screws though. Not locktite.1979 GS850G

Using sealant is my last resort. As stated in my other thread everything has been replaced with new OEM parts. The mounting surface is clean.I didnt do it I swear !!

Bingo. I sealed the 1000 tank I welded back together with 1422 A-2 thinned with MEK. Good for about 35 years. Makes for great bed seals also for parts, like petcocks.

Sometimes we can make things sound much worse than the reality of a situation. Sealant is not a substitute for o-ring but it there is a small amount of seaping it works. A small leak prior to adding sealant is not going to turn into a spontaneous huge leak, drip gas on the engine and set your balls on fire.

Why are you trying to seal the petcock to the tank? Wouldn't it be better to find the source of the leak and fix that. Did you try a leak tracing powder to find the source of the leak yet?
