    OldVet66, I hope you're spot on with your suggestion. I ordered those exact same sizes this morning to replace a C/S Hi-max with 1,600 miles on it that Vlad decided a bolt was good enough to kill a tire with as well.

    Those Hi-max's in 100/90-19 and 130/90-17 weren't very confidence inspiring when heeled over in turns and after running Dunlop Elite II's on my 92 850G for 17,000 miles, I decided they were way to twitchy for my tastes as well. So I decided to bin the front and go with a matched set to see if I get the same results as you.

      I received the last of the tires I ordered yesterday afternoon. I'll break down and mount up the new rear tire my lunch hour today, then re-install it on the bike when I get home. In the mean time, I thought someone would like to see the tread pattern compared to the tread on a Chen Shin Hi-max.

        im running a shinko tourmaster as well on my gs850...ive got close if not over 5000 miles on it..it easily has another 1500 or so left...i do LOTS of cornering.(even dragged a few pegs)...the grip.. great wet or dry..some straight roads...even did a few small burnouts at a show once...

        my front(shinko 712) is almost worn out from a whole seasons worth of riding...but im defintaly ordering 2 new tour masters for next year...damn good tires

          just reading your thread since I just ordered a pr. of 230's today for my 79' gs850 but did not bump up the front tire! Should I do this before it's too late? I got 130/90/17 and 100/90/19.

            I can't really say if bumping the front tire size one step is a good idea or not. All I've had a chance to try so far has been that rear tire on the bike. Before I had a chance to try out the front, the weather turned cold. So between the cold, it being dear season and dark out when I leave for work in the mornings, my riding season has for the most part ended for this year.

            Good thing as a day or two later, after I decided not to ride my 850 to work for the rest of the season, a deer wasted the front of a truck just moments before I passed it. That could have been me which hit it

              I would have thought a 100/90-19 was the best size for an 850?

              Don't remember, haven't had an 850 for a while.

              That's what is on my GS1100G, it's identical to an 850 only a little bit lighter.

                I guess I'll just leave it as it is... what a pita, now I gotta buy/find new valve stems (the right kind!lol) wheel weights, worry about breakin the bead and/or buying a cheap HF tool? and balancing? just venting..too much goin on. haha
