All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hints for Installing carbs on a 1979 GS1000

My tip to get all the room possible is to use a ratchet strap on the air box boots. With the air box bolts removed, I find a place to attach the hooks on the ratchet strap and then gently tighten the strap until the boots are as far away from the carbs as possible. Works for me. Hope it works...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Got in a nice 225 mile ride today in the Ozarks, especially 26 glorious miles on the Push Mountain road. It's a spectacular road that is a favorite of sport riders nationwide--so the claim is. IDK, maybe it's true, maybe not. 72 degrees today so yeah, just had to do it. 20250307_145604 by...

    Inner Tubes...are they needed?

That's why we mount our own tires. If we want to own 40 year old toys, then we better be willing to do or at least learn how to maintain said toys.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Not today, but yesterday as the temps were hovering around 70, I got in 124 miles of curvaceous Ozark roads. Some of you, (GBW) might recognize one of these photos as it is a popular stopping point. Had things to do today, so could not ride. Temperature was a record tying 79 degrees here in...

Tank Sprang a Leak While in Storage

I will second this. I did the same with the tank off my GS1000 even though I had previously lined it. It was my 1st time of lining the tank and I didn't feel like it was as good as the shop could do it. Yes, I did have to paint the tank afterward but I was OK with that.

Changing your own tires, is it worth it anymore?

The mojo lever is what made my tire changes a lot easier. You can spend 2 or 3 times the money I paid for the mojo lever and get the Rabaconda tire changer if that's what will help you change your own without so much hassle. I'm saying the mojo is the best $100 tool in my shop. Just saying'.

    Instability at high speeds

You might try eliminating the air assist forks. Don't really need the air if you have upgraded the springs and you are positive that the correct level of 10 wt. fork oil is used. And while we're at it, what is holding you back from putting your bike info in your signature?

No but it would be a good time to inspect if for rust or any other debris. And yes, I would fog it with fogging oil.
