A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    New Member inherited GS

In my opinion, I would forget about the fork seals, tires, brake lines, etc and get the tank removed then you can tackle the valve clearances according to the proper procedure. Since they may have never been adjusted, this is a very important step in getting the engine ready to run. The...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Also Greg, if you recall the route between Jasper and Ponca, that is currently undergoing chip and seal and it is downright hazardous in several places. I won't attempt to ride it again for a month from now.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Only bad thing is part of it has recently been chip sealed and it hasn't been bedded in fully. There are some spots that will still make the rear tire step out

    2024 Canfield Fair Bike Nite

No way your rice burner can compete against a hardley ferguson in the sport bike category. Ha ha, just messin' with you Norm. You should win easily with that retro widow maker.

Yesterday's ride up push mountain road in Arkansas. Great road from Yellville to Norfork. 20240825_100510 by Larry Alkire, on Flickr Sorry for lack of pics, I tend to ride more and shoot {pics} less.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

My Stoopid beemer has the low fuel light coming on at just over 1/2 tank. So yeah, my best friend on the bike is the trip meter.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

I will love mine too as soon as I can see someone else riding it away from my property. It needs an owner who will appreciate it more than I do.

More of that fine German engineering, aka: pieces of c__p. But enough of that, if you need a backup plan, I have one I will sell you at a really good price.

    Instability at high speeds

I used to have a similar wobble, but mine was as I was doing a right hand sweeper at speeds near 80 mph and up. Swing arm bearings had already been replaced, so the next thing was the steering head bearings. Now I only have memories of the front end wobble. Good luck and let us know when you...

    High Altitude GS1000

The last time I spent a week in the Colorado Rocky mountains with my 79 GS 1000, the only adjustment necessary was to open the side air screws 1/2 turn each. Bike ran just fine with more air being used. YMMV. Let us know what you did and how it worked for you.

    GS1000 Fuel Flow Problems

Also, it is NOT recommended to use a fuel filter in line. But if you do, you can get one for a garden tractor maybe at Bomgaars or Tractor supply.

    GS1000 Fuel Flow Problems

Hey, welcome to the site. I am sometimes a resident in the area of Millard West high school. 29 miles from Blair. I put a Pingel fuel tap on my GS1000E and I think it's great-----so long as I remember to turn it off after riding. I have forgot it a couple of times but my float valves did...

If replacing the stems, you could do yourself a favor and get the 90 degree ones. Makes checking pressure and refilling a breeze.

    Is it worth it?

Welcome to the forum. DO NOTHING to this bike until you have read member Nessism's top 10 newbie mistakes. Not following this advice will give you every opportunity to re-do everything a second time. Especially the carb cleaning.
