A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1974 Laverda 3C

I got a side stand bracket that moves the stand rearward from the front engine-frame mount. Much better. It fits a ZX6R stand, so I bought one off eBay; the one that came had been shortened. It's close, but would need to be cut and re-welded to get the foot angle correct. I have a 2nd uncut Kawi stand, due to the first stand not being the one presented, so I'll use the 2nd one. It will be a fresh cut/weld and be cleaner. The bike now has an upgraded ignition system with a 200W (vs 80 or so) charging coil, and runs and charges perfectly with the SH775 from Ed. Not much to do but ride now; just the stand to fix & a front MC change. These bikes are very robust. It's broken in from its long slumber and not using oil or leaking, etc.

I am going to replace the Laverda's master cylinder with a smaller bore, from 5/8" to 9/16", as the feel is sudden and requires huge effort to pull. It is strong, but requires too much effort way at the end of the lever's travel. I found a Honda reproduction that matches the Brembo look and is 9/16", so here's hoping.

I read up on the bore size for the ' 83 GS1100E - it has CBR900RR calipers, and my research said 9/16" or 14mm was what Honda fitted. Well, it was terrible: spongy and long travel. My son did an AI search and told me a 5/8" was correct, so I got a Chinese 5/8" Suzuki GS style one for $18, and it is working great. All my bikes have a mix of brake parts, so it's all MC's all the time now.

The Norton N15CS's pads were retracting a lot, and lever travel before engagement was too much, so I took the disc off and put a thinner spacer between the pads, and squeezed, cleaned, and re-mounted the caliper. All good. So 2 of 3 done; just the Laverda left.

I may be able to make the original Brembo lever work with the CB750 MC on the Laverda, which will be nice. The lever pivot-to-piston contact is OK, but I have to doctor up the MC to give adjustment capability to the lever's throw. The Brembo has a little cam adjuster that is visible near the pivot, the Honda CB has one underneath. May be tricky. Even the Brembo MC cap fits tho (2nd pic).

What an amazingly beautiful bike! I owned a couple of Ducatis myself and always have had a soft-spot for Italians, thank you for showing your work on this one.

There's quite a lively community around Laverdas here in the Netherlands, but I've noticed a lot of them coming up for sale in the last year, seems like the generation that rode these bikes are getting rid of them. Price is dropping as well, I might pick up one in a couple years from now.
