A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Can you show me your rear end? (of your bike, of course)

Forum Newbie
Hello All,
I didn't realize there was a Projects/Rebuilds category. So now that I know that, I'll document my progress here...

I'm putting together a basket case 1980 GS1100. I've started it by bolting everything together to see what I have and what's missing. So far, so good. I know there are a few nuts/bolts missing as expected, and when I put the tail end of the rear fender on, it's obvious that the rear was cut off. So I don't now how/where the turn signals mount. I'm guessing there.

When I search fleabay for a replacement, I could not find one, and am confused as to what else might fit. I did find one from an '84, but the pics are not clear enough for me to determine if it will fit my '80 model.
First question: could someone enlighten me as to if the "84 part would fit?
Second question: would someone be so kind and take a pick of their '80-83 rear end (with the tail cone removed) and show what a full piece looks like and how the turn signals mount?

Thanks much!
Steve

Sorry, I got no pictures but if you look at the parts diagram for your bike, go to the turn signal page, there's a picture of the turn signal bracket that bolts to the frame. You may be looking at them in your parts and just don't realize it. Hopefully they are there.

Member Trevor has an extensive build thread on his 11E in the projects section with numerous photos. I used it when I put my basketcase together and it was very helpful for reference. It's back a ways now probably 7-10 pages back.

Yup...someone cut up your frame. (Pics below)
Might be fixable, I don't know. When I found out my 1100E had frame damage, I found a used frame with title and replaced it.

These photos are of my 82/83 frame, but I am fairly certain the 80/81 is very similar, if not the same.

Didn't look at all parts diagrams but did look at several. It seems all "80" GS 1000's and GS1100's use those same brackets (part # 41580-45000-019 RH and 41590-45000-019 for LH). Also "78" GS750 use them Did look at "84" GS1150 and saw nothing like them... Saw somewhere that those brackets just bolt right on to the hole in the end of the frame
