A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Lowering a GS?

Has anyone ever lowered a GS?

I have a 78 GS-550E that I would like to lower so my wife would be able to learn to ride.

I wish now that I would have bought the "L" it was sitting right there beside the "E" in the showroom, but that was 28 years ago. This bike of mine only has 6800km (4250 miles) on it and I think it would be a great place for her the learn.

I also own a Honda Rebel that is nice and low and light but my son has claimed it, and it is not cool for mom to ride you bike!

Loosen the fork clamps & you should be able to slide the forks up an inch or so. Check Dennis Kirk, J.C. Whitney, or other bike parts suppliers. In years past they had lowering blocks for the rear shocks. They will lower the rear an inch or so.

lowering?

lowering?

I have a 750T and it's lowered front and back which lowers my bike 2 inches.I am not sure about lowering blocks for an "E" model. You can check around for aftermarket suppliers like rphillips said.Good luck let us know what you find.\\:D/

This looks much like what I am after.....could you post some closer pics of what was used to lower your 750? What did you do to the side stand as well?

I think 2" would make a great difference in the feel of the bike and that would be a good thing in this case!

Since these bikes are so old your not going to find them from a dealer.Thats where I got mine twenty-one years ago. You will probably have to try e-bay or one of our fellow GSers.
