    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have been wanting to get the wheels on my bike powder coated black for a while now...I loved the result I got on my 83 750e when I did those..

I think it turned out great!





 
What's the finish like? They look a little glossy. I thought powder coating was matte.
 
Yeah, the motorcycle is looking great!
That power coating is amazing! It sure has come a long way with all the different color options.
It's not to expensive either. 40 bucks to have a tail plate that I made done.

It cost me $120 for both rims and I had them sand blasted first for $90
Great makeover for $210 imo
 
I, too, love black wheels on these old Suzukis. It was one of the first things I decided on when I did my own Cooley. It looks great on that bike. They contrast so nice with the other black pieces.
 
I just can't learn to like the solid black wheels, where's there no contrast, though I know it's in style now days on the new cars and trucks. For me your silver brake lines do help a little... Back in the day I painted the grey sections of my GS wheels black and left the silver spoke edges and rims silver, didn't understand why Suzuki painted them grey in the first place. I guess they figured it out in "83" when they changed to black.... Don't take this as a knock, absolutely love all your stuff... This one has come a long way pretty quick... Congrats.,
 
Tell us about that front fork brace. Do you think It's lighter than the more common style? More effective? Assuming it didn't come to you on the bike, have you noticed any improvement/difference in the handling?

Does this style of brace serve any other functions, i.e. fender mounting, intended or otherwise?

Since it is attached lower, I suppose it's possible that it's both lighter and more rigid than the standard style.

It's an old school fork brace....not sure really how effective it is but I think they look cool as heII :)

That looks great Trevor ! The only thing that is not shiny on that beast is the exhaust. I doubt if they have a gloss exhaust paint that will stay glossy.
 
You want to see someone who grinds smooth and paints his wheels on his collection of 9 or 10 bikes look up windy urtnowski channel on you tube. You'll be amazed

been a fan of Larry his Cooley for a long time.

In one of the articles or maybe forum posts he said something like don't use the same black on all parts,
it will look like the bike was dropped in a barrel of black paint.
Use different black like glossy and matt so even the black parts will contrast.
Think that's what he may have meant in post 7.

disclaimer .. can't speak for Larry, long time ago, my memory not what it used to be, etc etc :D

Yeah, that's what I meant with my previous post. Blacks can indeed contrast with different textures and level of gloss. My bike has gloss engine covers and valve cover, semi-gloss head, flat black cylinders, and a flat black Yosh pipe. It gives it dimension and a level of detail I really like. I also mentioned it in the Cycle World feature, on BikeEXIF, and Pipeburn. That was a while ago, Rijko..:p

They cam out really nice. Taste is subjective. I might have gone a different way, but this is your bike, and you did it the way you wanted. It looks fantastic!

I plan to have the Valve cover on my '83 GS750ES done in a slightly different shade of Blue with a crinkle finish, like Ferrari does. My son wants to pay for it, so I purchased a valve cover off of EBAY for $14 bucks, with free shipping, all the other covers were $75 dollars. I could not believe how good the condition of it was when it came in last week. I'm polishing the cases with Jewelers Rouge, and they look like Chrome. The cover will be done over the Summer. Powder Coating has come a long way. ;)
