  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Bob, two lights were used. The jar is sitting on a cellphone with its light on. Between the jar and phone is a black rag with a hole cut in it for the light. The front lighting is a two AA battery sized maglite - in other words, lit by junk around the house. I had to put a tissue over the phone light to dim it a bit. The first version of this did not go as good. The phone was visible without the rag and the lighting was very uneven with much more light at the bottom because the front light was originally a dimmer single AAA battery light. It was a two night project.
This was a fun one to do and I love how the black rag gives the illusion that the jar is floating.

my turtle pics were a disaster. Every one including the one posted suffered from some degree of camera shake... I should have raised the ISO, but was hoping to capture as much detail as possible.

Just yesterday we noticed two of our oldest (20yrs+) box turtles roaming around. Kinda odd since the high temp was only 47' F and dropped to 30 overnight. We put out some mixed greens and fruit for them.

Can just imagine those in your pic under several inches of ice waiting for the spring thaw. Finally catching some rays must feel wonderful.
 
It was about 70? on Friday so I assume they were taking advantage. I was lucky to get any pics. Usually when I get anywhere near close they dive into the water. On that day about half of them did, but came back out pretty quickly.
I went back today and initially they were out, but a pair of ducks took flight, the turtles dove in and only one came back out. It was much cooler and cloudy today too.
 
Ha.... Well, I can't say that I know how baby turtles are made, but there were a few climbing over each other. To my untrained eye it looked like a fight for space to soak up the sun.

Interesting. You sure are good at experimenting and improvizing shots.

it appeared to me that the upper part of flower on left was a little lizard…… hum, 7 days in Florida is having an effect on me. Ha! A New Jersey lizard in March.

Got camera out only twice this week on vacation. Once was trying to catch herons or ducks or geese landing or taking off from a pond. That effort left me in a fowl mood.

other occassion was day at the ocean beach at Jacksonville Beach. Daughter and g/kids the subject.

Great woodworking as usual Scott. Must be a good feeling seeing that effort put to good use. And Dave, great shots at the beach. I really love the one with the bicycle, it's just a really fun shot to look at, Great composition and timing, and that's before I noticed that your grand daughter actually has both feet off the ground.
 
Dave, nice action shots, and definitely cool as Sandy noticed, that the granddaughter is not touching the ground. I'm assuming your daughter appreciated a warm ocean instead of a hole in the ice.

Scott, exceptional work on the cabinet. Definitely a job to be proud of, and I'm sure it will serve its purpose for many years. The old skeleton key lock is a cool touch.

Thanks Dave. Its like trying to solve a problem that no one asked to solve - in other words, no pressure. I see what you mean about the lizard, especially with the location of the waterdrop. I actually passed on trying to get pictures of the train that came thru town that night.... I really didn't feel like taking the walk. I may be time to start riding the bicycle again.

Thanks Brian. My wife actually said she may want it blown up and framed - noteworthy because she generally has a cool reception to my work.
 
Wow....good stuff in this thread lately.
I've been using the "Like" button, which is very cool, but apparently we can't see who liked our post. :(

Glen, I watched a video course a few years ago about using flashlights and long exposures to "paint" extra light on a subject. I'll have to see if it is still around.
