    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

  • In order to help others find info on a particular bike, be sure to put the year, make or model of bike that you are asking a question about, in the Topic Title. This will allow people to pass by posts they have no interest in.

my mistake then it was the engine used in later vanagons and being water cooled would give it longer life. Hey im no snob, Ive had a 68 van, 71 squareback and a 66 beetle at the same time . now just the beetle so I know even the beetle is fun to drive. And you have a point about rarilty all aircooled vw are getting scarce these days.

You're all confused

The 914 had the VW bus motor

The 924 had the Audi/VW motor

The 944 had the Porsche motor

Yup, it was SUPPOSED to be a VW originally. It would have been pretty progressive for VW. The 914 is kinda like the Boxter of it's day. Poor-man's Porsche.

The early 924 had an Audi motor, and lacked power. Later versions used the 944 motor but had smaller tires and lacked the fender flares of the 944. Those 944 variants used to be everywhere, now they are all gone. Like single cam honda fours, you rarely see them.

1985 650 cc street bike, dry stored for 4 years, ran great before. That, havnt had time to tinker, priced for quick sale, will provide bill of sale.

I have one of those. Cost me 600 needing steering head bearings, and wheel bearings. In the USA, 1982 is the only year, and silver is the only color. I saw a red one in Canada a few years ago. I thought it looked better than the silver. The Seca is more modern than the GS650G, with a more compact jackshaft engine, and it is sportier too, with semi rearsets, and Superbike style bars. The straight cut primary gears give a whine that is sort of cool. It definitely has merit as a motorcycle. I would like to see how it stacks up against a GS650G overall. I'm giving mine to my girlfriend as soon as she passes the MSF course. Its been part of my loaner fleet for guests since about 2007 or 8.



The Seca came with loose ball bearings in the stem, which is cheesey and unexpected. I'll bet that the Suzuki GS650G has better bearings.

Cycle Canada did a comparo between the 650 Seca and the 650E. It was pretty close.The 650E is still one of the best bike I've had.
 
For $500 you could buy it, do a quick resto, ride it for a while and then flip it and probably make a few hundred out of it.

I've done this with most of my bikes, which is why I've ridden everything from 125's right up to the 80's superbikes. Only real keeper in my shed is the VTR - she's special.

1982 Yamaha XJ650 Seca. Bought it from the original owner 2 years ago, with just 53k on it. Has always been garaged.

Has been a very dependable daily driver for me and has been on a few riding/camping trips as well. Needs a new seat cover and right handlebar switch housing ($55 at SG Power). Has heated grips.

This bike always turns heads. It is a rare find around here and has that beautiful classic, clean body style.

Always liked the XJ650,do I wish we could have a look.Still want the GPz750 a bit more though and I have one in the works;)
 
I've owned a 914 decades ago. Meh. Also had a Squareback VW, still have a Cabrio convertible. Went thru a nice Celica GT, and the biggest POS ever made, a 300ZX Nissan. I liked my Corvairs better than any of them, and so did my boys. Better than anything is the Fiero GT that I still have with a series 3 3800 in the engine bay. Fast, slick, and reliable. I've had it for years and my adult kids keep trying to borrow it.

Did you buy it Greg? I emailed the guy yesterday and he is going to bring it to my meet on the 10th if it hasn't sold by then.

LOL,Don't even have the $$ to get the exhaust for the GPz I was offered on BCCMC:frown:
