I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Im always hearing that people should got to a stage 3 kit when they get some pods and an aftermarket exhaust. or i hear someone saying they got stage whatever. what consists of these stages. im sure its consists of a jetting kit. but if you guys are just buying these jets kits, how do you know that this will tune the bike correctly. I go by trial and error when i buy jets. i keep whatever works the best. i have a whole pile of jets and stuff. i just need some info on what stage kits are. its just bugging me.

Educated guessing & trial and error when you first start jetting after modifications. As you get closer to a proper setup, it gets easier to make accurate educated guess's. The different stages correspond to the amount of modifications, and get you closer to a good setup without as much trial and error.
I opened up my airbox for more flow and added a good exhaust. With the stock jetting, it was so lean- it would hardly run. So I started with a stage 2 or 3 kit- I dont remember exactly. The kit was overly rich because my modified airbox didnt flow as much as K&N pods. So I ended up buying leaner jets than what was in the kit. I did some trial and error.
On another engine I put K&N pods with the good exhaust and the dynojet kit they sell to match that setup was real close.
Jetting on these GS engines seem to be very specific to the amount of modifications you have especially when altering the intake side of the engine.
This is because the airbox is so restrictive in stock form. I went from stock 115 main jets, to 136.5 mains just by altering the airbox- big difference. So trial and error can get costly if your not a good educated guesser. If your not, maybe stick with a tryed and true setup and a jetting kit that matches.

Trial and error that's what I did. I changed to pods because I liked the look. Bought the Dynajet kit and had to drill out my idle mixture screws and all kinds of fun. But I do like the look. The kit had all three stages and says what to use and my bike responded well to a bigger jet. That doesn't mean yours will too but that mine did. Also I noticed that different pods cause the carbs to react differently too. K & N pods work the best for my setup. I tried some pods off the internet they were good on my brother in laws 78 1000 but ran bad on the 850. The opening into the carb was a bit more restrictive (read smaller) than the K & N's. The one advantage of the jet kits is that they do have the needles that are shaped a bit different and they are adjustable. I know they had a different taper but I can't remember exactly what though. I guess I could go home and look at one of my other kits and tell you but that will be a few hours from now.
