    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Thoughts about the website in general

I don't think you're going to be able to drive up site traffic since - like mentioned in the first post - the bikes are dying. I think part of it also is that younger folks are flocking to more centralized online communication hubs like twitch, discord, etc. The forum format isn't really suited to casual conversation the way that those sites are, but those sites SUCK for in depth technical discussion and record keeping. This forum has been invaluable to me because of that specialized (GS specific) and more generalized (working on old vehicles) knowledge that I can't get anywhere else combined with the ability to reliably search and read old posts.

Recently I got a fiat that needs way more work than my GS ever did and I found that the fiatspider.com forum died along with decades of knowledge with it (fortunately I found other forums that are still running for the spider).

Please don't let this forum die - even if it looses contributions. I'm all for keeping ad free as long as possible of course, but please resort to ads if you have to.

It saddens me that these communities slowly die out, I hold on to some (false) hope that modern social media will prove itself insufficient as a form of communication about said in-depth technical discussions, and that people will come back to the good old forums.

On the other hand, I own a 1953 Matchless G3L, inherited from my grandad who has ridden these kind of bikes all his life. I can order parts for it and they are delivered next day, there is still plenty of information and knowledgeable people around. this gives me hope we have another good 20 years or so to go where life is relatively easy regarding these bikes from the 70's/80's.

I'm in my early 30's and realize I will have to carry the torch forwards, and happy to do so.
