    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

what is compatable between 700e and 750e?

im looking into buying a 1985 gs700e i want to know what parts are compatable between it and a 750?
 
Most everything except for a few engine parts, assuming you are talking about the 3rd generation 750.
 
The only difference between the two is rods, crank, and exhaust cam. Some people claim the pistons are different but I've always seen the same part number for the two. The 700 cam used to be a popular mod for the 750. The bodywork is slightly different too. The carb jetting differs a little too.
 
The biggest difference is the 700's are faster especially the blue ones...:D

Early production 700's had different pistons, And the part that holds the shock bellcrank (fits in the middle of the swingarm) and the part between the bellcrank and swingarm is different also. And the 700's have a longer (about 1/2 an inch) swingarm.

Good info Dee. Mine was produced in October of '84. I wonder if that makes it one of the early ones?

Left is the 83 750. Right is my 85 750.The 83 is lighter so that went in the 85.
 
My 700 has the earlier part so I suppose I might also have the higher compression pistons.
 
Found the Canadian 85 750 has different triples than the 83.Don't know if the 700 is the same.
 
Hey Billy, I'm gonna try a set of 700 pistons(slight dome) with750 rods and crank. I'm also going to use the 700 gearbox, and 700 cams.

I hope it all works cause it's all the good parts I have left between the two parts bikes I have....Have you tried this combo before?

How has this gone so far? I have an 85' 700 with +60k on it. gonna swap in some good used pistons/cylinders that still have hone marks. but it might have an ailing rod bearing. If thats the case then the motor is coming apart. But instead of new bearings, a cheap bastard route would be to pick up another crank and rods off ebay for $50 and put them in.
I got my bike at a tow auction for $200 so my plan is to stay cheap. Of course, I just found out my towing company impounded an 82 gs1100e. So i'm thinking of doing a 7/11 on it. decisions... decisions...

That motor will not fit into your frame, without extensive frame modifications.

You need an '80-'82 GS750E to do a 7/11 mod.

little more detail. When you say extensive. Are the frame tubes in the way or do I need to fab a whole bunch of new mounts. I'm well skilled it welding and fabrication. If it will physically fit inside the frame tubes, then the rest of it is cake. or is the swingarm going to be in the way? either way, I'm still gonna follow this 1100 to auction and see if I can't pick it up for 300$ or so. Then again, it has to clear lien first.

I'll take a measurment. My 700 gave up the ghost this evening on my way home. gonna try and pull the head and have a look. waiting on the 750 cylinder and pistons I ordered off ebay. But if I can shoehorn an 1100 motor into the frame then i'm all over it.
 
89 GSXR 750 motor is probably the easiest "hop up" motor. GSXR1100 has been done as well but needed frame & tank mods from memory (again due to height).

Wish I'd known the 700 swinger was longer, depending on where that 1/2" is it could have helped me a lot in fitting that 5.5" wheel & 170 tyre... :D

Mine did that. Snapped a cam shaft in three, taking the cam chain and oil lines with it. Bought a head and used the lines and cams out of it, threw in a new chain and it's been healthy as a relatively healthy horse ever since.

Next time will most likely be a 1150 or new bike.
