A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What model GS1000 do I have?

Forum Newbie
Hey guys, not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I picked up a GS1000, from the looks of it a 1979 GS1000, however I'm unsure with variant I have. I tried to use the little tool for finding out what model I have but my VIN doesn't have EX or anything like that at the end. The VIN is GS1000-703822. It is chain driven and has dual front brakes and the choke is up at the handlebars. To me it looks like a L variant due to the gauge cluster, but I need to get a bonded title for this so I was trying to get specifics. Thanks, Andrew!

Yep, "79"GS1000L, VM carbs tell either "78 or 79, and no GS1000 L in 78. Chrome rear fender and instruments say "L"... Tell us more about it.

awesome, thanks for confirming. I got it for $500 today and odometer says 11,100 miles on the bike. The seller got this bike when he bought a truck and knows nothing about it. he said hes seen the side fairings that go under the seat but he doesn't know where he put them so he said he'd let me know when he found them, bike looks real nice for its age. I'd like to restore it to how it was made, but if i cant get parts i guess ill just make something up with it. looks like some electronics may be missing or just not hooked up. I'm not sure how crazy I'm gonna go with restoring it, if ill strip it down to the frame and recoat the frame or what, but first step for me is getting it titled to me
