A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Piston and valve contact.

WD is bad to use when torquing, take the head back off clean the stud threads and nuts with brake cleaner and re assemble. See if that helps at all, the WD is giving a lot more torque force. I don't think the over tighten head is what is causing issues, you sure the motor hasn't been shaved...

Fixing up my gas tank + effectiveness of petcock filters

Fuel filters are fine if you get the right one. The cheapo ones from bike shops can cause more trouble then they are worth. I have had good success with k and n wide pancake type filters.

    Compu-Fire SERIES R/R Install

Jim the compufire works better then those fjr RR you were using? All your tech talk is over my head but seeing you in action first hand (Bill knows what i am talking about ;) ) and knowing your are a electrical engineer I have all the confidence you are right the compufire is a better mouse trap.

VM33 Mikuni smooth bore carbs, leaking

did you check the floats to see if they took on any fluid? those brass floats can sometimes get pin holes then fill with fluid. how does the surface of the fuel valves look? are they grooved up? Whats your float level? new or old float bowl gaskets? I assume you used vitron type orings on...

    Exhaust Bolt holes on 78GS1000

Dan, had this happen on my Kat, if you value the head pull it and take to machine shop so they can do it nice and square. If you insisted on doing it pull the head or engine to get a straight shot. The frame will really mess with you when drilling. And once you get off center it gets worse...

    Carb Dipping Question

after you dip and rinse and dry them I like to spray the bodies with some wd-40 and let them sit for a day and wipe off the excess, i find it helps keep the bodies a little cleaner and less likely to corrode. The wd will work it's self in the pores which the dip has opened up.

    1980 GS1000 SuperVintage Roadracer build

I agree, bigger disks are better and so are lighter wheels, spokes with wider rims or go with a set of early GSXR wheels. I see you are friends with Tracy, he has good advise. He should also help you out with sourcing better wheels and breaks, I can't remember exactly what year GSXR stuff works...

i would contact APE, they sell shim under buckets, ti retainers and keepers. they should be able to piece together the rest of the missing pieces you need as well as recut your valve stems if need be to match keepers. I would try to use the TI stuff since you have it.

    Kreem removal part 2

if you need to remove por 15 coating or the harder core coatings, try to find the highest concentrated Methylene chloride stripper you can find. I used some heavy duty stuff from homedepot. It takes a lot of time letting it sit for say 48hours rise then soak again. It will eventually come off...
