A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Falling into despair...........

Holy Smokes! How is that possible?...LOL Do you have a different fuel tank installed? The standard tank (your signature says GS850GL) is supposed to be around 3.5 gallons (13 liters). Even if you rode till it was completely empty..... it would mean your gas cost around $2.75 gallon. You...

    1980 GS850G - how far??

That sounds about right (if you have an "L" :D ). I regularly get around 150 to 160 miles per tank with mine (the 850L). But I don't ride it very hard either.

Tank size on 1981 GS750L same as 1979?

Detman, You don't have an 18 liter tank, you have a 12 or 13 liter tank (maybe even a little bigger, depending on the year, I don't have that data). You've got the "L" model, not "standard" GS750. The standard is the one with the 18 liter tank.

    vm 26ss carb air jet

No, the air jet as pictured in the above CV carb........cannot be removed on the 26mm VM carbs. At least not with a screwdriver. They seem to be fixed-size pressed-in brass inserts.

    bleeding brakes

Tanner, What you're looking at is the diaphragm that you took out of the master cylinder reservoir. :D Did you take out the diaphragm "before" bleeding the brakes?......or did you add brake fluid into the diaphragm itself. If you didn't remove the diaphragm, that would explain why you now no...

Noob Question....How do I shift this thing?

1st gear on way bottom..........5th gear on way top. Neutral is "between" 1st and 2nd gear. Your "Neutral" light on the dash should light up when it's in neutral (if bulb isn't burned out). Also, even if out of gear, and on kickstand.........rear wheel may still turn, although with very...

Zeke, Are you maybe talking about the chromed cam cover end caps?

    Latest progress report. It's confirmed...I'm a dumbass.

No, I wouldn't go with the peanut butter sandwich route......the material used in those sandwiches really isn't strong enough to handle the combined mounting stress of a nut and bolt too well. A better solution might be a 2 week old salami sub! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Soaking carbs & parts - How long?

I've left carb bodies in there for several days without any ill results. Then again, I've been using the same can of chem-dip for over 3 years too. :D :D I use it for lots of things......like stripping paint off of brake calipers, etc. Beats the hell out of wire-brushing.

    petcock "on" position?

That petcock is the same as that which I have on my '80 GS850L. No matter how much I played with it using a screwdriver, I never could get the PRIME function to work. However! Out of all GS's I've played around with (4 of them - I know that's not many compared to other members on the site), I...

    Missing out at 4000 Rpm

I see. The reason I asked, is last year, I had almost identical symptons.......the cause of which was my fuel line developed a "kink" during the hottest part of the summer. This restricted the fuel flow. It would start up great, and would also run fine at slow speeds/RPM's. But when you...

    Missing out at 4000 Rpm

Tim, I'm just wildly guessing here, but are you running a fuel filter, one that might be partially clogged? My first guess would've been fuel starvation.

anyone with an '82 850g (or other shafty)?

    I don't remember exactly what I'm running, but I think it's around 5800 or so rpm's at 70mph.
