DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Half Power! HELP!

You need to clean the carbs first of all. A "real" cleaning (meaning removal and disassembly required).

My LAST step~and, last request for HELP!! Throttle cable bracket

It gets screwed on top of one of the diaphragm covers, using the same screw that holds the cover down. I couldn't find a good pic of it, but it's very similar to this:

    Trouble with blinker switch assembly!

It should be on your electronics panel, under your left side cover, next to the r/r, solenoid, etc.

    78 Gs1000 Reg/rec Swap -- W/ Pic

Your bike has the 2 pc assembly, seperate regulator and rectifier. You remove both of those, and put in your new combined unit. The 3 wires coming from the stator, hook up to the 3 yellow wires on the r/r (no special order). Hook up your black to battery ground, and the red to battery hot...

    Help - Fork seals stuck

And when you have the tubes seperated, you can pry out the seal with one edge of a claw-tailed hammer. Not all work well, but I happen to have one that grabs the seal just perfect.............just take care not to damage the top surface of the slider..........protect it with something like a...

Impact Driver too harsh for CV Cap screws?

If they're in there THAT tight, and you've tried "carefully" with the impact driver to no avail, then try a good set of vice grips. If that don't work, then drill the heads off of the screws.

Impact Driver too harsh for CV Cap screws?

Mike, If I was you, I wouldn't worry about damaging them at all. If they're a pain to get out, use either the impact wrench or a set of vice grips, whatever works best. I would replace all those screws with Allen head bolts. It's what I do to every set of carbs, first time I take them off of...

    Barber Museum / Cheaha Mountain

Nah.........the one you're thinking about is this one, up in Piedmont, AL. They even have displays of hair samples that they've kept over the years from certain prominent "haircuttees", such as the former assistant vice-mayor of Gadsden, and the junior wardrobe coordinator/designer for the...

    Barber Museum / Cheaha Mountain

Now that I think about it, I recall that when we were on the top of Cheaha Mountain, we could just barely make out a large plume of bluish black smoke in the distance, up North. So, it is possible that it was during one of those days when you were riding around on your GS1000 somewhere in...

It's a very nice ride, once you reach the base of the mountain, it's about 15 miles of nice curvy road till you hit the top. Here we are, having reached the top. Taking a little smoke break (sounds good, eh John?) Another view of down below And that's about it....................had...

After a good meal and a beer or two, we decide to tackle the problem on the 850 that night. It's the R/R of course, and it is promptly switched out with another that I happen to have handy. Of course, not too much to do while the battery is charging except to take it easy. And here, later...

    Barber Museum / Cheaha Mountain

Of what happened next, I don't have pics. We hit some pretty good rain, which, in itself, didn't bother us too much. But then, the 850 started acting up. First signs were: the light suddenly getting pretty dim, and the fuel gauge dropping from almost full to empty within a matter of a few...

    Barber Museum / Cheaha Mountain

Now here's an interesting one. Guess they had too many bikes there, and were interested in selling some. They tried to get rid of this piece of junk, offering it to us for $1000. Well, we were smarter than they thought....there was no way we were going to spend that amount of money for some...

    Barber Museum / Cheaha Mountain

And although it's only about an 90 mile trip to the museum there's the occassional break or two, to stretch our legs and to down something cold. We get there sometime around early afternoon. Being that it was a weekday, there was very little going on, so there was definately no problem...

    Barber Museum / Cheaha Mountain

Had my buddy Mike from Germany here in September. This is the guy that got me into riding to start with (back in the early 80's). I've known him since 10th grade when I went to high school with him on a US Airbase in Germany. Fortunately, he was able to make it over to the states last year...
