A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1150 starter not disengaging

Did you eat your previous starter with the explosion? Is the starter new or used?

Ok. All appears to be good now, for whatever reason? I did Terry's test with rotor loaded, spins one way smoothly.

I changed the roller bearing to another one I had, exactly the same by the way and put may 1250 in/lbs on the rotor nut. It fired up, no hanging up.

Thanks for the support. Spent the last few hours breaking her in, all seem well and good, no leaks, with about 30 miles on the clock.

That's good news!

Charlie, Bill, thanks for the well wishes. The starter motor is old, maybe bought it from Rapid Ray 5-8 years ago. I have an older one where most of the teeth were bitten off from SC snatching, I guess due to the shot taper on the left end. I did loose a small tooth on the idle gear yesterday. I do love the 1229, had one for the last 15 years. .25 less compression, which maybe better, who knows. No oversize valves or anything, but still noticably more grunty than the stock ES.

Years ago I made the mistake of using washers on the idle gear, having previously owned an 80 1100ET, when in fact the 1150 does not require them.

An aside I did not mention yet, is a ring mark on the inside of the rotor, as if the narrowest part of the tapered end is planted firmly against the inside of the rotor. Also, when the rotor nut is tightened, a thread or two is showing out the end, past the nut.

Just for clarity, I was referring to the 850. I haven't pulled the clutch so can't tell if anything is missing and neither can I find a specified end float for the SC ring gear.
